TopSpot’s defensive duo signed contracts with the northernmost professional football club in the world, Alta IF. Jesper and Mate will form a solid back line force for the pride of Finnmark by the North Sea. Alta’s manager Rune Berger was happy to bring the negotiations to the finishing line:
“I am really happy to bring two central defenders to the team who both have been showing excellent performances in the training. I also think both of them fit perfectly to the group on and off the field, which is always very important.”
Mate Dujilo played last part of the 2011 season in MyPa in Finnish Veikkausliiga and Jesper Törnqvist was at PK-35, in Finnish Ykkönen. Now both looking forward helping Alta IF to reach the higher ground in Norwegian Adeccoliga.
Before last year Jesper has been playing in Umeå FC in Sweden and Mate has made his mark in the Croatian top league as well as 2 season with Finnish Veikkausliiga team MIFK.
Norwegian Adeccoliga gives them both a brand new challenge. Alta’s northern location doesn’t make it easier. The trips to away games are long and the team plays their home matches in an indoor hall. The “local” rival is Tromsdalen, which by car is still about 350km away.
Jesper is excited about the opportunity to play for Alta IF:
“I think Alta is the right step for me at the stage of my career. I am enthusiastic about the coming season and I am sure I can help the team with my abilities to achieve very good results in 2012.”
TopSpot wishes both of the players a successful season 2012 with Alta IF and lots of clean sheets to the team!
